This was the first stop of a one week, three campus swing that started at the University of Missouri on Tuesday, went to Auburn University on Wednesday and Thursday, then ended up at U of Miami on Monday. Needless to say it, was definitely worth it. Each school had its own style, feel and flavor.
When we landed in Columbia Missouri, we had no idea how amazing their playing fields would be. The event was held on three soccer/football fields made of multi-colored AstroTurf with colored end zones and logos on the field we could use as greens. One of the cool aspects about the Missouri event was that because the fields are synthetic, we were allowed to hit shots off the turf. No shags necessary. How great is that.
The day began with a skills shootout and ended with a short course tournament where we used the center 'M' logo as the first green and the yellow end zones as fairways. For this event, we used a modified scoring system with players receiving bonus stokes for landing shots on the designated 'fairways' or 'greens' targets. In all, it was a really cool course and a great way for students to get a taste of what an on-campus almostGolf tournament will be like next spring. We can't wait to come back and design a course that incorporates the fields, the beach volleyball courts and adjoining areas. It will be a showcase course for '09. Stay tuned for our upcoming Missouri video.
