WHAT AN AMAZING COLLEGE CAMPUS: To start with, I want to come back to U of Iowa for a real almostGolf tournament next year because their main campus is magnificent. The main building was built as the original capital building back before the beginning of time so it's impressive to say the least. Then, surrounding it are four other building complexes that are equally as impressive. Needless to say, these buildings would be a great backdrop for the Iowa almostGOLF Open 2009.
THE COMPETITION: This was our second college campus event where we put on a driving range skills competition that included a short shot, long shot and flop shot. Our goal was to give the new and beginning golfers a fun taste of the game of golf in a compact environment, while giving the hot shots a fun competition to could sink their teeth into. Players would get three shots per skill. We put out 12ft tall inflatable pylons to hit to. Several players had no problem dinging the short and long shots, but the flop shot is definitely something only the very best players could handle. I really think it's the one determining factor as to who is a 'good' golfer and who really shines. We definitely look forward to showcasing the campus next semester with a tournament. Augusta, move over.
